This program is designed for students who, due to employment or other circumstances, find it difficult to complete their studies within the standard period of study. It allows such students to complete the curriculum in a planned manner over an extended period that exceeds the standard duration.
Once approved, the total amount of tuition normally paid over the standard period (two years for the Master’s Program and three years for the Doctoral Program) will be divided evenly and paid each semester during the approved extended period.
Please note that tuition fees are subject to revision if the official fee rates change or if there is any modification to the approved study period.
Applicants eligible to apply for the Long-term courses of Study are regular students currently enrolled in the Graduate School or those who are planning to enroll, provided that they meet one or more of the following conditions.
(Current students in their final year of study are not eligible.)
(1) Persons who are employed (including temporary employment)
(2) Persons engaged in housework, childcare, long-term nursing care, etc.
(3) Persons with physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities, mental disabilities (including developmental disabilities), and other physical or mental disabilities
Master’s Program: 2.5 years, 3 years, 3.5 years, or 4 years.
Doctoral Program: 3.5 years, 4 years, 4.5 years, 5 years, 5.5 years, or 6 years.
The long-term study period must begin at the start of a semester (April or October).
Applicants must obtain approval from their academic supervisor (or the prospective supervisor for new entrants) and submit “Long-term Course Application” (Form 1) along with a study plan and one of the following supporting documents:
(1) Certificate of employment issued by the head of the applicant’s organization (for employed persons).
(2) Certificate from the employer indicating weekly working hours (for temporary employees).
(3) Certificate or written statement proving engagement in household duties, childcare, or nursing care.
(4) Certificate of disability or medical diagnosis.
(5) Other documents as specified by the Graduate School.
(1) For current Master’s students:
– To begin in April (Spring Semester): Apply by the end of February of the first academic year.
– To begin in October (Fall Semester): Apply by the end of August of the first academic year.
(2) For current Doctoral students:
– To begin in April: Apply by the end of February of the first or second academic year.
– To begin in October: Apply by the end of August of the first or second academic year.
(3)For prospective students:
– The application period follows the schedule for admission procedures.
Note: Applications are not accepted on Saturdays, Sundays, or national holidays.

(1) Shortening of the approved long-term study period is permitted; extension is not.
(2) Each student may apply for long-term study or shortening of the period only once.
(3) To shorten the approved study period, submit “Request for shortening the long-term study period” (Form 2) together with an academic transcript.
(4) Deadlines:
– For completion in September (Spring Semester): Apply by the end of February of the previous academic year.
– For completion in March (Fall Semester): Apply by the end of August of the same academic year.

(1) Applicants must consult thoroughly with their (prospective) academic advisor before preparing application documents.
(2) Approval is subject to review; applications may be rejected.
(3) If approved, a certificate of approval and notification of the revised tuition amount will be issued to the applicant.
