Master’s Course (〜2022.3)Division of Natural System

Admission Policy (Master’s Programs)

We seek students who comprehensively apply expertise in biology, biotechnology, chemical engineering and global environmental science, with a broad perspective of natural systems consisting of biology, humans, materials and the earth, to develop science that is in harmony with nature. We are looking for motivated students who aim to realize enriched lives for humankind, and who conduct comprehensive exploration of life systems, which probe the mysteries of life and life phenomena; bioengineering, which applies biology to human society using engineering ideas; chemical engineering, which consists of applying mainly basic knowledge of chemistry to manufacturing; and earth dynamics. We are seeking students who aim to become researchers, engineers, and educators in the fields of global environmental science.

Basic Policy for Selection

The Department of Natural Systems values students with sound fundamental knowledge in each of the fields of biology, biotechnology, chemical engineering, and global environmental science, and who interact with other fields to comprehensively develop science and enrich the lives of humankind. We value students who are willing to contribute to the realization of such. Specifically, applicants’ basic abilities, qualifications, and academic motivations will be comprehensively judged based on an academic ability test (written and oral exams, or oral exam only), English qualification test score, and academic transcripts.

Desirable Abilities for Admission

It is necessary to understand the natural sciences in general, however basic academic ability related to biology (life system course), chemistry / biology (bioengineering course), physics / chemistry (chemical engineering course), and earth science (global environmental science course) is deemed especially important.

Curriculum Policy (Master’s Programs)

In each course of the Department of Natural Systems (Life Systems Course, Biotechnology Course, Chemical Engineering Course and Global Environmental Studies Course), students learn specialized knowledge about the natural systems formed by organisms, humans, materials and the earth, and develop the ability to comprehensively combine and apply this knowledge. We provide education to develop researchers, engineers and educators with global sensibility and strong ethics in the field of natural science, based on the Kanazawa University Graduate School Global Standard.

《Life Systems Course》

We implement education preparing students for advanced interdisciplinary life science study based on biology and related fields, from the molecular / cellular level to the individual / ecosystem level, and from the basics to application.

《Biotechnology Course》

While fostering logical thinking ability, we conduct education and research focusing on complex life science phenomena, especially life science phenomena related to human beings and human life, promoting interest in a wide range of life science phenomena and applying knowledge practically.

《Chemical Engineering Course》

We train engineers and researchers who utilize basic knowledge of chemical engineering, which supports the foundation of the chemical industry, and who acquire the ability to discover and solve problems in production process design, the effective use of energy, and the recycling of materials and resources on a global scale.

《Global Environmental Studies Course》

We train researchers and engineers who understand natural systems from a broad perspective and on a long time scale, and who can apply their expertise in global activities and global constituents to solve natural disasters and global environmental problems. In addition, we train educators who impart expertise in global environmental science and the skills to apply that knowledge.

Diploma Policy (Master’s Programs)

The Department provides students with the expertise and practical skills necessary for research in life science, biotechnology, chemical engineering, and global environmental studies, to realize a rich and sustainable natural environment and a human society in harmony with nature. Students are equipped with presentation / communication skills that allow them to play an active role in the international community. The Department develops human resources with rich humanity and creativity, and facilitates the acquisition of flexible problem definition / solving ability, and plan implementation ability. The requirements for completion are as follows: (1) Acquire specialized knowledge in each course and related fields, practical expertise in research and investigation, and the skills to apply such knowledge to the natural sciences. (2) Acquire the ability to analyze issues of the international community, propose how each field of the major can contribute, and propose and implement solutions. (3) Acquire the ability to define, investigate, and solve problems to address global environmental issues and realize a recycling-oriented, healthy society. (4) Acquire the ability to give presentations on their own proposals and results, including the process of logical thinking and judgment. In addition: the ability to appropriately develop society through communication is required.
