Admission Policy (Master’s Programs)

　The Division of Mechanical Science and Engineering aims to provide high-level wide-ranging education and research on mechanical science and engineering, which forms the foundation for manufacturing in every industry. The Division aims to promote harmony with the natural environment by focusing on the sustainable development of human society, and also by cultivating specialized knowledge for contributing to interdisciplinary issues and technological innovation with high ethical standards and an international perspective.

　Student qualities desired by the Division of Mechanical Science and Engineering are:

• Basic academic ability in mathematics and physics and basic knowledge of mechanical engineering.
• The English proficiency necessary for understanding lectures and international communication.
• The ability to implement a research project independently.
• Motivation toward the development of new mechanical science and engineering in harmony with the natural environment.

Basic Policy for Selection

　A description type examination for requisite fundamental academic ability and an interview regarding motivation for learning in the Division of Mechanical Science and Engineering are conducted. A photocopy of score sheet(s) for English proficiency tests (TOEFL®, TOEIC®, IELTS, etc.) is also required.

Desirable Abilities for Admission

　Basic academic ability in mathematics and physics, which are considered the foundation of mechanical science, and basic knowledge in mechanical engineering (strength of materials, mechanical vibration, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, etc.) are required. English proficiency necessary for understanding lectures and international communication is also required.

Curriculum Policy (Master’s Programs)

　The Division of Mechanical Science and Engineering adopts the following curriculum policies based on the Kanazawa University Curriculum Policy, organized as common courses, fundamental subjects, specialized programs, and project research. With this curriculum, the Division of Mechanical Science and Engineering aims to develop human resources who aspire to create technological systems that will be instrumental in solving various industrial issues.

• Common courses taken by all students are provided in order to instill humanity, creativity, high ethical standards, and an international perspective.
• Fundamental subjects in mechanical mathematics and mechanical engineering are provided in order to instill fundamental academic knowledge and logical thinking in mechanical science and engineering.
• The following four specialized programs are offered in order to cultivate advanced specialized knowledge and the skills to apply that knowledge to project research in mechanical science and engineering: design and manufacturing, advanced materials, applied mathematics, and process innovation.
• Project research programs are offered to allow students to cultivate creativity and develop analytical, planning, and execution abilities in a particular specialized field.

Diploma Policy (Master’s Programs)

　The Division of Mechanical Science and Engineering aims to produce engineers who have acquired practical expertise and advanced, specialized knowledge in the field of mechanical science and engineering, which is the basis for all production systems. Our engineers are capable of creating intelligent mechanical systems that are in harmony with humanity and the environment, and possess an international mindset and the creativity to play active roles internationally as well as flexibility in response to social and scientific change. Requirements for receiving the Master’s degree include earning the required credits while acquiring the above-mentioned expertise and capabilities, in addition to passing a thesis review after developing the abilities and skills required for highly technical professions.
