Double-Degree Master’s Program between Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Kanazawa University and Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University (Kanazawa University – Tsinghua University DDP)

The Kanazawa University-Tsinghua University DDP is a program that allows students to study in the master’s program at both Kanazawa University (Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology) and Tsinghua University (Shenzhen International Graduate School). By simultaneous study at both schools, students are able to develop broad perspectives and sophisticated knowledge on environment, energy and resources. In addition, students can obtain two master’s degrees from both universities (double master’s degree) in 3 years of the standard program period.

Academic Divisions

In this program, students can study in the following divisions (courses) of Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Kanazawa University.

  • Division of Material Chemistry (Applied Chemistry Course)
  • Division of Electrial, Information and Communication Engineering
  • Division of Geosciences and Civil Engineering (Civil Engineering Course)

Curriculum

Students will study for two years at either Kanazawa University (Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology) or Tsinghua University (Shenzhen International Graduate School) as their home university, and also visit and stay at the other university to complete their studies, including master’s research (standard duration: 3 years).

Upon obtaining the credits required for completion of the program, submitting a master’s theses and passing the thesis defenses at both Kanazawa University and Tsinghua University, each university will confer a master’s degree on the student (dual master’s degree). The master’s thesis submitted to each university must be different from each other (although it is allowed to include complementary or interrelated parts). In order to obtain a double degree, the student must acquire the degree from his/her primary university (the degree will not be conferred only from the visiting university).

Degrees

Upon completion of this program, the students will be awarded both of the below degrees:
From Kanazawa University: Master (Engineering)
From Tsinghua University: Master (Engineering)

Admission

Total 20 students are admitted per year (10 students from each university)
To be admitted to this program, students must apply and be admitted to both Tsinghua University and Kanazawa University.

How to Apply

To choose Kanazawa University as your primary university

In addition to two years of study at ETIC, Kanazawa University, students will stay at Tsinghua University for at least 10 months to complete their studies, including master’s research.

Please apply to the “Environment and Energy Technology International Credits Course (ETIC)” at Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Kanazawa University, then also apply to the “Tsinghua University-Kanazawa University Double Master’s Degree Program” of Shenzhen International Graduate School of Natural Resources and Environment, Tsinghua University.

*Applications are open to both Japanese and international students.
*Chinese nationals are not eligible to apply to the DDP of Kanazawa University as the primary university. Please apply to the DDP of Tsinghua University as the primary university.

To choose Tsinghua University as your primary university

In addition to two years of study at Tsinghua University, the student will stay at Kanazawa University to conduct studies, including master’s research.

Please apply to the “Tsinghua University-Kanazawa University Double Master’s Degree Program” of Shenzhen International Graduate School of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Tsinghua University, and then also apply to the “Environment and Energy Technology International Credits Course (ETIC)” at Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Kanazawa University.

If Tsinghua University is your primary university

Students in the DDP-Tsinghua program are eligible to apply for the “Study at KU program”. The amount of support will be either 180,000 yen per year or 90,000 yen per half year, depending on the time of entry into Japan. For details and application for Study at KU, please click here.
