I also recommend the program because I was able to gain valuable experience through discussing the technologies of my own country in comparison with the technologies used by local communities.

While talking with local students during training, I experienced firsthand how problems that were not visible in the beginning were identified through discussions. I reconfirmed through this experience that face-to-face discussions play a significant role in identifying problems.

The best experience was that I was able to have discussions with local students in English and that we became friends. I realize that this kind of experience depends on the personalities of the students involved, for example whether or not they are outgoing, but we were lucky this time in that we were able to respect each other and build a positive relationship. I think participants gained confidence simply by being able to hold discussions with foreign students in English, and the experience will stimulate them to work even harder on their research after finishing the training.

to Page Top

Environmental and Energy Technology Internship

Interns develop problem-solving skills by searching for practical methods to complete the assigned tasks

A mixed group of Japanese and international students is dispatched to businesses

Accomplishments

2025: 2 companies (including individual application)
2024: None
2023: 2 companies (including individual application)
2022: 6 companies (including individual application)
2021: 2 companies
2020: 3 companies
2019: 3 companies
2018: 5 companies
2017: 4 companies
2016: 8 companies
2015: 6 companies
2014: 8 companies
2013: 7 companies
2012: 6 companies
2011: 3 companies

*2011-2014: Accomplishments of students who have taken the previous course, “Environmental Education in the Japan-China-Korea Environment & Eco-technology Special Course”
*2015-2018: Accomplishments of students who have taken the previous course, “Environmental Technology International Course”
*2019-2023: Accomplishments of students who have taken “Environment and Energy Technologies International Course”
*2024-　　: Accomplishments of students who have taken “Graduate Program on Science and Engineering for Sustainable Development (Environmental/Energy Science and Engineering Field)”

Students’ Voices

Participating in an internship program made me aware that before graduating, I must acquire the ability to independently think, make plans and carry them out.

Through my experiences of writing various documents including product outlines, visit/tour reports, and daily reports, I learned the importance of being aware of the readers, summarizing the information, and writing clearly.

I gained an understanding of the actual process from production up to customers obtaining the product, and of the fact that unlike our laboratories, a business cannot continue to exist without generating profit.

It was beneficial since I was able to get a good picture of what it is like to work in a business.
